#6 of 8 in Museums in Villa de Leyva
See over 500 displays of dinosaur and prehistoric fossils at Museo Paleontologico de Villa de Leyva. This extensive and informative museum drew upon the rich supply of fossils thanks to the former sea bed that surrounds the city. The museum's educational material is open to all ages, but younger visitors will especially enjoy learning about our prehistoric cousins. Walk to Villa de Leyva. Yes, please!!! Featured 100 X 100. Very quiet boyacense village, with excellent cuisine for every taste.

The original collection came from a priest. I remember him much later called Museum paleo Tonito and had a mill powered by a current of water passing under the House. I admired a fossil tooth, a fruit of the fossil cocoa, the ammonites and everything what is distributed in the single classroom within the exhibitors. That father or something similar to the father Arbelaez, of the Bogotá Botanical Garden should be Jesuit. Had anthropologists as Reichel Dolmatof and Silva Celis of hell you. But the boom of the dinosaurs came much later even after the film 'Jurasic Park' by Steven Spielberg. We went through the desert fields picking round stones in the hope of finding a fossil. On the road some children sold 'fresh fossils'. There are many personal collections with fossils of the Villa.

One truth goes to different sites where you can see parts of fossils and of course the fossil, (which this very abandoned) is very famous, is famous anthropological museum (which is a very modern construction), but this museum especially has a very interesting value in my opinion as an architect, the House where she is working itself is an architectural gem of the village , an old mill that was moved by the water which falls from cerro de iguaque, is still intact and allows host precious pieces of fossils from the same people who in the previous museums, also backed by universidad Nacional, which gives seriousness to the site, simply lacks the detail to make it more promoted, simply put a working water mill and give more deployment publiucitario and this site is in the places recommended for visit and learn in villa de leyva. Besides if you have time to enjoy their greenery, has an arboretum where you can meet about living species in the area. I highly recommend it.

The Museum is very close to the Centre of the town in an open natural environment, has a complete collection of fossils and a garden with significant examples of Colombian flora divided by geological eras. The House is an architectural jewel of more than 400 years, a mill flour in excellent condition

A nice place to observe the fossils found in the region thanks to the National University of Colombia.

It is small but interesting. The Museum is housed in a 400-year-old House. There are a variety of fossilized plants and animals.

Old House that served as a mill for more than 400 years. The Museum is rather small, but manages to condense a large exhibition of remains and fossils. Totally recommended to visit it.
