Centro Historico Santa Fe de Antioquia, Santa Fe de Antioquia
(4.1/5 based on 150+ reviews on the web)
The region's oldest settlement, Centro Historico Santa Fe de Antioquia retains the character and feel of a centuries old Colombian pueblo. Whitewash houses line the narrow cobblestone streets as you head towards the main plaza, the social center of the town. See the Puente de Occidente, a suspension bridge over the Cauca River and one of the longest in South America. Expect to feel the heat a bit more here as the town sits in a valley between the Cauca and the Tonuzco River. Head here from Medellin via the Tunel de Occidente, the largest tunnel in South America, making for a quick and easy day trip getaway. • This municipality was initially the capital Antioquia, but by those political movements and reigns in the colonial era, whims of oligarchs had to do with Medellín became the Villa of La Candelaria, today "capital of the mountain" (but is positive in any case). The climate of Santa Fe is strongly warm, but has many places to enjoy great food and delicious very exotic fruit juices (in fact is near Sopetrán, another municipality of the Antioquia West where the feast of fruits is held mid year). There are several hostels to stay, even luxury in the midst of its cobblestone streets and close to everything (Santa Fe isn't very big). In this historic old mansions that have been used to record novels telling other times, and to not miss visit the different churches (at least for its architecture), you can see there are an of every two blocks on the main road of the historical part. Recommended film festival which is held usually on weekends that are closer to the 7 and 8 December each year.

  • It is the typical Colombian colonial town. With a central square, surrounded by a church and shops. The houses in the village are very well maintained and there are several colonial hotels for rest in the following blocks. The climate is rather hot. The main attraction of the town is 15 minutes by mototaxi and is the bridge from the West which is one of the oldest architectural works in the region. Also has a museum which tells the way the region was developed from even before colonization. There are other attractions like the mother Laura's House and the famous House of two Palms, which inspired the novel and the soap opera. It is a quaint and cozy town an hour and a half from Medellin, which worth knowing.
