Primera Iglesia Bautista, San Andres
(3.6/5 based on 800+ reviews on the web)
Perched atop a hill, Primera Iglesia Bautista features sweeping views across nearly the entire island. Originally constructed in 1847 with pine wood imported all the way from Alabama, the Baptist church very much recalls the look of the American South, with its paneled exterior and red roof. Pay a visit to the historical building, which can seat close to 1,000 people, and explore its spartan interior, complete with dark wood furnishings and an upper level of pews. Afterwards, you can climb up the spiral staircase within the steeple to get an even better panorama of the surrounding landscape and ocean. • Is a very old church and badly preserved. There is the entry that could be reversed for site maintenance, especially the stairs that lead to such a viewpoint (that nothing but the top of the Tower of the Church, which does not have good visibility and that it is dangerous not to have any security). Access to the tower is terrible, hot and without security. Don't waste your time!

  • We had talked of the unique ceremony. We even rent vehicles for reaching the temple, on a hill, away from the center of the city (such as about 7/8 km). We were eleven people, but we were unaware "clothing" (elegant enough by the way) to get to the ceremony in the temple, making it not could enter. We respect the decision of the membership and we are left with "desire"... maybe for an upcoming trip.

  • In my opinion, not worth it. All they say is not charged entry, later in the lobby are several women wanting to charge. You have to climb many stairs, all the way to a "cage", almost impossible to move. The view is beautiful, as the entire island. It's not worth it anymore.

  • It is pretty, make it a small guided tour that explains the origin at a cost of $5000 per person and can upload by several steps of wood slightly rustic until what was the Bell Tower and from there see all san andres is a beautiful sight.
