Primera Iglesia Bautista, San Andres

3.6
#3 of 6 in Sightseeing in San Andres and Providencia Department
Church Tourist Spot
Perched atop a hill, Primera Iglesia Bautista features sweeping views across nearly the entire island. Originally constructed in 1847 with pine wood imported all the way from Alabama, the Baptist church very much recalls the look of the American South, with its paneled exterior and red roof. Pay a visit to the historical building, which can seat close to 1,000 people, and explore its spartan interior, complete with dark wood furnishings and an upper level of pews. Afterwards, you can climb up the spiral staircase within the steeple to get an even better panorama of the surrounding landscape and ocean. • Because it is located in La loma you can get a view of both sides of the island, which is great! Before the visit you get to see a video telling you about the history of the chuch and of his founder.  more »
  • We rented bicycles to go here. First, that was a mistake because it as an uphill climb the entire way and the bikes didn't have gears and were old/junky. When we finally reached the church we almost e...  more »

  • The first baptist church was closed due to a funeral, but the views around it were spectacular. Head a little further to the second baptist church which you can access spectacular views also, and you can climb the stairs from the outside even if it's closed or there's a service on.
  • Hello wies
  • How wonderful! We went on a Sunday in day of worship. That beautiful thing, pessamos we were in American churches. Joyful worship and with several songs, the people are friendly and you invite to participate. Thanks for the visit! It is important to remember that we love by historical and cultural side. If you like history and culture will also like.

  • Special site for First Baptist in San Andres. It is striking that all the religious offices are in English. You feel as if you were in the South of the United States. Special atmosphere

  • Beautifully preserved old church. Part of the tour of the island. A place to stop and learn from history.
