Palomino, Riohacha

4.4
#1 of 6 in Things to do in Riohacha
Increasingly popular with local and foreign tourists, Palomino boasts pristine white beaches and crystal clear waters. Once you arrive, you'll find plenty of activities available: join a guided hike up toward the nearby mountains or simply enjoy the calm sea breeze with a book. If you choose to swim, beware of the strong currents. Local bus transport to the area takes you past memorable scenery such as vast banana plantations and traditional local spots. Be sure to pack mosquito repellant as the insects are a constant problem in the area. Plan to visit Palomino during your Riohacha vacation using our convenient Riohacha trip planning tool .

It is very quiet, but please if possible not sponsor staying in the new hotels, they are concrete moles who specifically want only money and generate more waste, which keep the huts of bamboo!

We leave from Santa Marta in our particular car, because we didn't want to take bus or tour, but travel at our own pace. The trip takes approximately one hour and half, the road up to the entrance to Palomino, is very good, you pay only a toll. Arriving at Palomino, turned left and approx 5 minutes, is passes through a highway uncovered but passable. In the end, a parking lot is $5,000 (approx US 2.0). There are many places to drink, because the weather is very hot. Must be protected from the Sun if you decide to walk; It seems that the Sun falls vertical head. To reach the beach, the beauty of the sea is dazzling, does not tire one marvel at nature. The beach is long and you can walk with confidence; the sea water is warm, but somewhat turbulent. There are no kiosks or tents for shelter from the Sun, but there are good shade trees. There are many hotels and hostels to lodging and restaurants for lunch, but next time, we will take our lunch. We had lunch at Cabañas Villa Delia, the food was good, but to the Manager or owner, came up with putting a terrible music at the highest volume that could achieve (I thought that I was deaf), making our lunch very unpleasant time, maybe not We could take advantage of the sound of sea or the birds that lived there. Moreover, it is a very beautiful place to visit and close to Santa Marta, to go and return on the same day.

This village deserves to take a break for a few days of rest: the environment is maintained, the beach is nice, it is not difficult to find housing or to restore for all budgets. I suggest to walk to the sunrise in the small streets, paths, outside the main street, to discover the rest of the village: typical. The Sierra Nevada is close, allowing hiking (with a guide). For swimming it is difficult to move away the edge unless you be a good swimmer, but you can have fun with the waves. The shops are on the main road, there is everything you could possibly need. Hotels and restaurants are mainly on the main street, connecting the road to the beach. My only regret: the atmosphere is not very warm, tourists looking to isolate themselves from each other. Everyone lives in a bubble...
