Parque Tematico Hacienda Napoles, Puerto Triunfo

#4 of 16 in Wildlife in Antioquia Department
Wildlife Area Nature / Park
Explore Parque Tematico Hacienda Napoles, the estate of the infamous Colombian drug kingpin, Pablo Escobar. After his death in 1993, the luxurious 20 sq km (7.7 sq mi) complex fell into the hands of the government and is now open to the public. The mansion he lived in was partially demolished, and the estate was turned into a theme park. Visit the small museum and learn about Escobar’s life. As you explore the eclectic compound, you can see rare trees and plants, admire the butterfly garden, lounge by the pool, and view a replica of Escobar’s first airplane. • The Park has good spaces for recreation, good pools, increasingly there are best attractions but the only problem is that a good place there is to eat, chicken flavor regular and fast food sites only by what is would suggest to vary a bit more gastronomic offer.

  • It is a 3 hours drive from Medellin. It is an area where it's always hot and makes enough moisture. Interesting because it allows to know part of the story of Pablo Escobar. There is a small "Museum" photo in the stables, near the aquatic area. all unlike what other people say, we saw all the animals; some closer than others. The most difficult to see were the hippos that were almost all the time in the water by the heat. The aquatic area is fine, especially for children. How in all of these parks accumulates enough people in the pools. Different water slides and waterfalls there is very cool. The entry day which includes safari + aquatic area costs about € 23. I found that the staff was unkind and taking into account the general sympathy in the country; except for the driver of the motorbike that made us the route through the area of animals. Infrastructure in Doradal, a nearby town is fairly basic.

  • Parque Temático is very expensive for the Colombia (75000 COP per person), on the other hand, it is rather well organized with many employees very present and ready to learn. It is also very large, and a car is essential. There is the possibility to eat on the spot for reasonable rates. To enjoy, it is better to stay two days. It includes two different sets, a very average zoo with few and badly put animals in value. The "large African savanna" puts side by side several enclosures for animals, but does not live in the same space. More scientific and educational content is very poor. The "African Museum" is scientifically inept with a vision of Africa dating to over fifty years ago, there seems not to be of authentic piece in shop windows, but only average quality reproductions also. The Dinosaur Park takes the old concept of sculptures in cement of dinosaurs, but without any concern for realism, however is much more colorful than Crystal Palace Park. Finally the Museum installed in the former stables of Pablo Escobar gives a vision that suits a bit everyone, only containing press clippings and giving him the image of a demon source of all the misfortunes and especially eluding the many complicities that he has received. The other together are two relatively large water areas with a set of attractions for the whole family from the youngest to the more adventurous. Security is also present with employees at the entrance to each attraction to help despite the affluence, expected too much and you could easily spend the day in each of the areas, especially with children. In short, a very good time with your family.

  • This place is good for children and for adults. The water park is great specially because is usually very hot in the area and you can go in there and get cool down. If you like birds this is a place you must check out.
  • Really impressed with the size. A must visit. Plan to spend an entire day traveling to and from Medellín/Ríonegro.
  • The zoo is amazing, just to be inside is amazing. There are 3 museums inside with photos. The price depends if you go ibto the pools, get hotel or just the day trip. Also guided tours available. You can walk thru the park or do the guided tour.
  • It a wide place, the Hacienda Nápoles it's beautiful and fixed for receive many people with family and friends. They offer aquatic attractions, animals, food zone, restaurants, transportation from the entrance to the jurassic Park entrance. For full access you must buy a ticket around 70000 COP. If you have transportation it's better but the park offers bicycle rental around 6500 COP per hour.
  • If you are looking for a wonderful time where you can see animals in the "wild" and water parks this is for you! We had a blast and the animals look so much happier than in a traditional zoo. The route of the park is HUGE and the animals all have large areas of land to run around in. There are 2 water parks area 1 more kid friendly and the other is full of slides and more adult fun. The restaurant can be a little pricey for a full family, but for the 2 of us it was fine. It is huge vast acres of land and they are still adding more and developing it, but it was very clean. The roads are a bit bumpy, small cars beware. It is safari themed though so... Warning: If you're looking for some kind of Pablo Escobar themed park or weird tribute this isn't the place for you. The message of the park is that they were able to turn something horrible into a postive. Escobar is not a hero for Colombians, he's a blemish on their history. If that's what you're looking for don't bother.
