  • We have with two couples from Popayan a ride (with taxi) made to about 3600 meters. From there we go climbing (about 2 hours 45 min up, around the crater and 1.5 hours down). Because of the tremendously hard and icy wind above, we are after 20 mins at the urging of guide vice versa. She was afraid we would be called off the steep crater wall. The top lay not in the clouds. The trip was fantastic but really heavy.

  • By Popajan bus to Cruce de la Mina, then walk (about 45 minutes uphill with backpacks) to the Cruce de Piimbalà, at 3200 meters. It's cold! And the huts are not heated (but provides many blankets). The most popular hike is the ascent of the volcano Puracè (local guide is compulsory for 35,000 pesos to split in the group, we were 5). The climb is a bit steep but very adequate, recommended an early start (6:30-7:00) to be in the top 10 o'clock (4600 meters). Warm and waterproof clothes fundamentals!

  • The guides are very friendly, you must book a day in advance and start the tour in the morning, there is two hours by car from destapada. Makes much cold and is preferable to wear boots and waterproof. Is a landscape very relaxing and Nice. You can see the nature. The hot springs of San Juan have a cute landscape but a smell to egg rotten.
