  • Interestingly, Pasto is the only city in Colombia, where the main square named after Bolivar, but its Vice President of Nariño. Maybe because of injuries to Nariño in the battle for the city during the liberation movement. Returning to the main square of the city, the Spaniards arrived immediately accounted for future construction scheme, dividing the territory, until applying the perimeters of future homes. The first Church in the town of San Juan Bautista Cathedral began, and its first building was a very humble, made of clay and straw. Almost all the buildings in the town were built the same way. About the prichne lack of Bolívar statue in the main square of Pasto. Our guide tells us that here is more like the popular leader of Nariño and Bolivar, not because he thought more about ordinary people and their rights. Bolivar, being a revolutionary and vojakoj, was representative of the aristocracy, and suppressed in the bud any disagreement with his ideas. So was brutally suppressed uprising in Pasto royalists, during which many inhabitants of the town, including the indigenous Indians.

Where to stay in Pasto

Just two hours from the border with Ecuador, Pasto represents a stop-off point for traveling business people, so you can bet on having plenty of choices when it comes to accommodations. A few older, more atmospheric hotels sit in the city's historic center, offering rooms with lots of character and various additional facilities. Simpler business-style hotels can be found farther from the center of town, usually close to the main regional highways--these are especially convenient for those wishing to explore the remoter parts of the region.
