Las Lajas Sanctuary, Pasto
(4.7/5 based on 380+ reviews on the web)
Admire the impressive and unusual architecture of Las Lajas Sanctuary, an atmospheric and attractive place of worship on the edge of a deep river-cut gorge. The current church was built between 1916 and 1949 in a Gothic Revivalist style, though the site has been a place of pilgrimage since the 18th century, when the Virgin Mary allegedly appeared before a local invalid during a storm. A bridge crosses the deep ravine and gives the place a magical look, while the use of local stones in the facade allows the church to blend in with the impressive nature that surrounds it. • interesting architecture of the church built in to the rock. even inside one of the walls is pure rock the whole church is atached to.
  • The place is very nice as a child and gone sometimes, usual Ecuadorian people or of other nationalities that if they pass through Ipiales should go to this shrine which is typical of this city and is on the border with Ecuador. Down to the sanctuary you will find many things typical of colombia including objects, food etc. The hike is of 20 minutes to the shrine but if you want you can download hundreds of stands and get to their gates where many devout people go and light candles and pray to the Virgin. The place is very nice to my me resembles an ancient castle.

  • Site of forced step when in Pasto and Ipiales since has been named as one of the most beautiful in the world. It is best to get off walking from one kilometer before to watch the spectacle that is the devotion to the professed people and plates with acknowledgements of people to the Virgin of las Lajas in addition to the style in which it was built. It is one of the sites that should visit

  • I like most people, I assume, visit here while crossing the border and if you are in the same situation and wondering if it's worth it than trust me it is. Once you reach the main bus terminal look for white vehicles. You can get a taxi for about 8000 while shared taxi is 2200. The journey is only about 15 minutes. From the taxi stand it's about 10 minutes down a hill. It's a really beautiful site and building. You can do it in about 90 minutes. Normally border days you want to get over with asap but this makes it a good day. Visit if you can.
  • The location, the style (although fairly recent), and the interior with the main wall being the mountain rock are amazing. Worth a visit if you happen to be around che Ecuadorian-Colombian border.
  • amazing and beautiful
  • worth visiting if you're waiting for a bus. There are shared taxis leaving from outside the bus station. Just ask for Las Lajas.
  • Amazing church
