Las Lajas Sanctuary, Pasto

#1 of 16 in Things to do in Pasto
Admire the impressive and unusual architecture of Las Lajas Sanctuary, an atmospheric and attractive place of worship on the edge of a deep river-cut gorge. The current church was built between 1916 and 1949 in a Gothic Revivalist style, though the site has been a place of pilgrimage since the 18th century, when the Virgin Mary allegedly appeared before a local invalid during a storm. A bridge crosses the deep ravine and gives the place a magical look, while the use of local stones in the facade allows the church to blend in with the impressive nature that surrounds it. The Church of las Lajas Nariño is located in Ipiales - architectural constructions more amazing and is simply spectacular to see it lit at night. I travel by bus support Bogota to Ipiales. (23 hours). The ticket cost $138,000 by express Bolivarian. In Ipiales I host in a normal Hostel in the Center. From this point I directed to the Bolivar Park (I think that he is called so). At this point ask for taxis that go to the lajas and I pointed out that should walk 3 blocks more. In a corner leave taxis often and $2,500 is worth the trip and it is about 15 minutes from distance. Do not charge entrance to the Church and they can take the cable car to admire the view as they arrive. This has a value of $12,000 per trip. In the alrrefedores of the Church sold food and service bathroom. Everything is very boniyo and super recommended

It is a site that anyone can visit it, it should do so, extraordinary, visit night spectacular, lighting of the Chapel is the most beautiful I've seen. Attend mass in a place that inspires recogemiento. The best is walking down, they are not more than 15 to 20 minutes, the trail is wide and no steps. The cable car is only for the weak or sick or disabled persons. That if, do not forget to go well sheltered mostly in August, the cold is impressive.

Where to stay in Pasto

Just two hours from the border with Ecuador, Pasto represents a stop-off point for traveling business people, so you can bet on having plenty of choices when it comes to accommodations. A few older, more atmospheric hotels sit in the city's historic center, offering rooms with lots of character and various additional facilities. Simpler business-style hotels can be found farther from the center of town, usually close to the main regional highways--these are especially convenient for those wishing to explore the remoter parts of the region.
