Las Lajas Sanctuary, Pasto

(4.8/5 based on 550+ reviews on the web)
Admire the impressive and unusual architecture of Las Lajas Sanctuary, an atmospheric and attractive place of worship on the edge of a deep river-cut gorge. The current church was built between 1916 and 1949 in a Gothic Revivalist style, though the site has been a place of pilgrimage since the 18th century, when the Virgin Mary allegedly appeared before a local invalid during a storm. A bridge crosses the deep ravine and gives the place a magical look, while the use of local stones in the facade allows the church to blend in with the impressive nature that surrounds it. • The sanctuary has a beautiful location and is as picturesque as you can see from the photo. We even saw a rainbow in the nearby waterfall! Definitely worth a visit, but don't plan to stay very long. W...  more »

  • Great view. Not much else to say. The best (and only) thing to see in Ipiales.
  • It's such a beautiful place you don't have to believe in God to enjoy this place it's just amazing and it's even better at night
  • It's a beautiful place. And you can go in cableway.
  • I like most people, I assume, visit here while crossing the border and if you are in the same situation and wondering if it's worth it than trust me it is. Once you reach the main bus terminal look for white vehicles. You can get a taxi for about 8000 while shared taxi is 2200. The journey is only about 15 minutes. From the taxi stand it's about 10 minutes down a hill. It's a really beautiful site and building. You can do it in about 90 minutes. Normally border days you want to get over with asap but this makes it a good day. Visit if you can.
  • Really cool, and at night the lights won't let you indifferent.
