Iglesia La Catedral, Pasto

4.0
#2 of 6 in Historic Sites in Pasto
Religious Site Tourist Spot
Surprises await visitors to Iglesia La Catedral, which features a monotone brick construction. The interior design stuns in comparison. Inside you’ll find intricate stained-glass domes, painted statues, and detailed frescoes. The church holds much religious significance to the locals--it's build upon the remenants of the temple of San Francisco back in 1560 before it was ransacked. Visit the church during Sunday mass to experience the traditions first-hand and to hear the organ played. Work out when and for how long to visit Iglesia La Catedral and other Pasto attractions using our handy Pasto travel itinerary planner.

Where to stay in Pasto

Just two hours from the border with Ecuador, Pasto represents a stop-off point for traveling business people, so you can bet on having plenty of choices when it comes to accommodations. A few older, more atmospheric hotels sit in the city's historic center, offering rooms with lots of character and various additional facilities. Simpler business-style hotels can be found farther from the center of town, usually close to the main regional highways--these are especially convenient for those wishing to explore the remoter parts of the region.
