Plaza Botero, Medellin

4.0
In the heart of the city's old town, Plaza Botero pays tribute to the famed works of Colombian sculptor Fernando Botero. Nestled between the palace of culture and the local museum, the verdant square serves as a hub of city activity. Wander among the numerous bronze statues by Botero and you'll get a solid understanding of the artist's famed style: his trademark sculptures feature chubby figures, both human and animal, with exaggerated, balloon-like proportions. Try striking a pose of your own in front of one of the 23 popular works on display here, or grab an ice cream and park bench to watch the crowds go by. Put Plaza Botero and other Medellin attractions into our Medellin trip planner , and watch your holiday take shape.

  • The sorrounding areas of the park seems dangerous and many homeless and drug addicts. I would suggest take your pics and leave the area do not explore.  more »
  • The square has dozens of sculptures of Botero, and is a location or nice, with tourists and families. Is next to the Antiquoa Museum, so it's a good team. Located in the Centre, to meet and then move on to other tours.

  • In medellin and colombia there is much, but much botero to do. If you are going to the square well, but if you can't go, you do not lose nor anything of this world.

  • If your a gringo take care. Go when there is a good police presence. Many homeless and people upto no good are in the area. Its very interesting and the Art is nice.
  • An English version of trafalgar Square. Very busy with people, alot of homeless people around so be careful if your travelling around with your belongings. I enjoyed looking at the different arts around. They also have people doing portrait pictures and selling many items around the area.
  • Surreal and Beautiful This plaza is a busy hub of activity in the middle of Medellin. The Botero sculptures are surreal and beautiful. You are able to get up right next to them ! The plaza is filled with children and adults of all ages, and is a unique part of the culture of the city. Would highly recommend seeing it as part of the Real City Walking Tours of Medellin.
  • It's kind of worrying to be followed by different people asking you for money. I'd rather avoid it if you are alone. Just stay in groups and you will be safe. However is a beautiful place worthy of visiting.
  • The sculptures are with a visit, the museum as well lots of street vendors, and street urchins so watch your stuff. In looked like a total gringo, but also had my head on a swivel and was fine, but this is not valid place to let your guard down
