Palacio de la Cultura Rafael Uribe Uribe, Medellin

#7 of 29 in Sightseeing in Medellin
Landmark Tourist Spot
Survey the idiosyncratic and striking architecture at Palacio de la Cultura Rafael Uribe Uribe, a distinctive and ornate black-and-white historical building that acts a social and cultural event center with plenty going on most days. Constructed from 1925-1937 in a Gothic Revival style by Belgian architect Augustin Goovaerts, the building bears a distinctive facade of contrasting black and white stones topped by a bold dome. If the sun shines just right, you'll notice the white stones gleam a little bit green. Inside, check out the bronze reliefs, stained glass windows, and "The Liberation of Slaves," a mural by Ignacio Gómez Jaramillo. The building frequently hosts concerts, workshops, and art exhibits, so check ahead on the website before your arrival. • Apparently it was never finished because they felt the didnt need the architect anymore, looks like the did need him in the end. Still a marvelous building to look at
  • The museum is poor in my opinion.
  • The building is in good condition, very nice stay and the view is excellent. You can visit for a half an hour. The entry is free of charge.
