Palacio de la Cultura Rafael Uribe Uribe, Medellin
(4.5/5 based on 130+ reviews on the web)
Survey the idiosyncratic and striking architecture at Palacio de la Cultura Rafael Uribe Uribe, a distinctive and ornate black-and-white historical building that acts a social and cultural event center with plenty going on most days. Constructed from 1925-1937 in a Gothic Revival style by Belgian architect Augustin Goovaerts, the building bears a distinctive facade of contrasting black and white stones topped by a bold dome. If the sun shines just right, you'll notice the white stones gleam a little bit green. Inside, check out the bronze reliefs, stained glass windows, and "The Liberation of Slaves," a mural by Ignacio Gómez Jaramillo. The building frequently hosts concerts, workshops, and art exhibits, so check ahead on the website before your arrival. • Is near the plaza Botero and is free for national and foreign. The architecture of the building is very nice.

  • Beautiful, Plus-size bronzes by Botero are superb ! The adjacent museum is a must too, with a fantastic collection of Botero Paintings & mixed media art works...well-arranged for a walking tour.
  • In the pure of heart of Medellin we have this beautiful building. Thanks to our guide, we could climb up to the top floor, from where there is a beautiful view of the city, the metro, a mural of the master Botero and the mountains. The story of its construction and architecture is very interesting, as it has all the earmarks of being a church. Inside, we could see some exhibitions of art and photography. I highly recommend it.

  • Apparently it was never finished because they felt the didnt need the architect anymore, looks like the did need him in the end. Still a marvelous building to look at
  • It is a neo-Gothic style building, florid Gothic and some call it eclectic architecture, has ogival windows, arches of half point and wide spaces, designed by engineer Belgian Agustin Govaerts in 1927

  • It has a small museum showing the history of its construction. From Monday to Friday until 5 pm they let you go up to the roof.

  • The architectural design of the Palace of culture is spectacular. The exhibition on the life and work of Uribe Uribe is complete and well presented. Similar to other exhibitions occur in pleasant atmosphere. Excellent service from the staff. Congratulations.
