Nevado del Ruiz, Manizales
(4.5/5 based on 260+ reviews on the web)
Set foot on the volcano that killed more than 20,000 Colombians and buried the village of Armero at Nevado del Ruiz. The volcano, whose name translates from Spanish as "the sleeping lion," erupted in 1985, causing one of the most destructive natural disasters in human history. Nowadays you can take a guided tour to the volcano, where you'll get a sense of the catastrophe's extent, and how the land has since recovered. Bring warm clothes and take your time, as the high altitude can make hiking difficult. • Attraction not to be missed for those who love nature and emotion. Not always the visitation, by which said, if shows attractive in the same way, because of the melting snow, volcanic activity, etc. But it was a worthwhile trip.

  • We could not climb to the top, it is common for some time alone to the area of the tombs, however it is a beautiful landscape, if you arrive early you can find the site with snow.
