Cano Cristales, La Macarena

(4.8/5 based on 240+ reviews on the web)
Called the "liquid rainbow" river, Cano Cristales draws people from all around with its clear waters and vibrant colors. Various minerals on the bottom of the river cause it to turn green, yellow, brown, black, and especially red. Most travelers embark on a four-day walking tour along the river, which passes multiple waterfalls. You can also go for a single-day tour from Macarena. Test the waters and don your aqua shoes before jumping in, as the river varies a lot in depth and the bottom is rocky. Work out when and for how long to visit Cano Cristales and other La Macarena attractions using our handy La Macarena vacation planner.

  • Second to none. I arrived by Satena from Bogota (1 hour flight), several accommodations there is hostel. Nothing sumptuous. Engages the service of guide to reach Caño Cristales, 20 minutes Guayabero river above, then a 30-minute pickup 4 x 4 and finally a 40-minute walk. Then walk along the pipe. It is forbidden to use insect repellent or perfumes or creams within the natural park. The best thing is to go from pants, flannel long sleeve and a hat or Cap. Shoes very comfortable are indispensable. It is worth. There are other plans such as Caño stone, Cano donkey or go see pink river dolphins.

  • We traveled to Cano Cristales in the summer of 2016. After seeing some spectacular pictures online and reading the descriptions we could hardly wait to get there. Over the period of three days we did ...  more »
  • One of a kind! Visited on 26 October 2016. Unfortunately, it haven't rained for 10 days so the river and land was very dry which caused not enough water for the Macarena Clavigera to float and to show its true beauty, most of them are all dried up on the rocks so make sure you check the weather before going. To fully enjoy the experience I will suggest to spend minimum 2 full days/2 nights there! I choice the 2 days/1 night tour which was way to short as the first day you don't actually visit the park, only on day two you do and which you need a full day there! It gets VERY hot and burning under the sun so make sure you are well equipped with long sleeves clothing, hat and face shield from the sun. You are not allowed to use any sort of sunscreen (to avoid contamination to the river). If you don't speak Spanish, make sure to ask your operator to arrange one for you. It was truly so beautiful, a must when visiting Colombia!
  • I was there in 2008 .why you don't the exact location in the map?. You first need to take a boat from the river after this you can take a bicycle or walk but it takes some time ,the water is pure and you can drink macarena jungles used to be farc stronghold and still has probably significant fighting around.
  • If you want to see something unique in the world and have a different travel experience this is a good place to do so. I hope we don't destroy it.
  • Its a wonder of the nature!!! The fascinating colors are a beautiful mix!!!
  • I like caño cristales Is a place very nice
