Playa Blanca, Isla Baru

2.3
#1 of 9 in Parks in Cartagena District
Sun, snorkel, or simply relax at Playa Blanca, where turquoise waters, soft white sand, and lush coastal foliage attract scores of tourists and day-trippers. Kick back at one of the local beach bars with a bite to eat or a drink; alternatively, try buying some fresh oysters from the vendors who frequent the sandy stretch. Afterwards, grab your snorkeling gear and explore the underwater environment of coral and fish. However, be sure to keep an eye out for the jellyfish that frequent the area. • Attraction is made in conjunction with the Aquarium, however I noticed that the transport boat apparently was with overcrowding and Board unprepared. The boat stopped on the high seas, without being told the reason (default). The Playa Blanca has no anchorage and you have to go down with the help of the natives. Weak structure and very bad meal, served in a hurry and with many flies (disappointing). The open bar is offered but very weak with beverages of dubious quality and small quantity. The return was also complicated, even to get on the boat and even stopped other times by default without any information and finally for lack of fuel and was rescued by another passing motorist near, otherwise we'd be adrift at sea. Considered a lack of respect, as well as irresponsible by Port authorities that does not check for the autonomy of the vessel. (I wonder the danger of a boat with capacity greater than estimated, adrift at sea. The captaincy of ports of Colombia should give more attention to this activity. Recalling also that the speed and very large. Let this be a warning. For this tour where includes the Aquarium, I suggest the Yacht, much safer and comfortable. "ATTENTION CARTAGENA NAVY."

  • Do the tour bus may be cheaper, but it's a headache, especially if has rained before he leaves the tourists away from the beach, in a descent with a lot of mud. It was an adventure to arrive on the beach, which is wonderful. Is the part of Cartagena closest to the paradise of the Caribbean vision, but the hawkers and the masseurs are boring too much, do not give peace, insisting all the time that you buy their products/services. In addition, the food included in the package is not sufficient. It would be great if it weren't for these drawbacks.

  • I was looking for recreation with my wife and it ended up that it was the busiest day in Cartagena. Arrived at the Playa Blanca, the apparently professional travel agency has not succeeded, to organize the connection with a boot to the "quieter" beach. Instead we was offered a trip to the Islas del Rosario. Not what we wanted, but at least an alternative (we thought). The "Guide" was more a seller and the comments made on the Islands very surface. Two seller boats docked at us and it remained nothing more us than to wait. Then Giants scramble on the island of the Aquarium. Free swimming is not possible there. Back to the Playa Blanca we would finally in the water. It is impossible to find a quiet place. Countless sellers. There's also no rest in water, because interfere with boats and jet skis. It is really a pity. The beach was broken so beautiful, so clear, but people do the water simply. The water smells like engine oil fumes, etc., Also, tons of waste – from conservation due to are behind the beaches!

Where to stay in Isla Baru

With its white sand beaches generating plenty of tourism, Isla Baru features plenty of established accommodations to meet the demand of Cartagena locals and international visitors. Take your pick from the main resorts along the island's coastline, providing standard to luxury rooms and a range of amenities to match their price bracket. Budget-conscious travelers will be pleased to find a couple of simpler hotels offering no-frills rooms and reduced onsite facilities--which shouldn't be a problem, considering the natural beauty of the island's beaches.
