Parque Nacional Natural El Cocuy Reviews
In a nutshell: The park is absolutely beautiful, getting there and out is quite straightforward, not a suffering at all. Next follows a lot of practical tips: From San Gil we had to take a bus to Duit... more »
Es un lugar bellísimo que vale la pena conocer. Queda a 10 horas de Bogotá, Colombia, sólo se puede llegar por carretera. It is 10 hours from Bogota, Colombia, can only be reached by road. I have gone twice, both I've hosted in municipality of el Cocuy because there people are very hospitable, there are many hotels offer and there are several tourism corporations that you can guide very good to know the Nevado del Cocuy, Guicán and Chita and other places such as the c Erro of Muhammad and the nearby villages of Boyacá and Santander. To climb to the Nevado del Cocuy and reach close to the glacier, it is best to hire guides peasants, are those who best know the region, climate and they are super friendly. It is cheaper to travel in a group because a guide is authorized to carry maximum 5 persons, 1 or 5 people, the guide you can charge from $100,000 COP up to $180,000 COP, depending on the season and how to negotiate. The best is take soft food and bread, and candy for the road and no suitcases, tennis grip and soft and thermal, clothing since the wind is ice cream, as well as hat, gloves and dark glasses with protection. For me, the best path is the Laguna Grande, also went up along the path of the pulpit, but is too difficult, torturous and you can not see the glacier, the landscapes are limited because there is too much mountain that hides them. The large lagoon trail, which starts in La Esperanza is soft, is for people that do not practice climbing and you can better appreciate the Nevado and many beautiful landscapes. Along any path, the ascent lasts 4 hours and 4 hours return. By the group transport from the village, is from El Cocuy or Guican, charge you from $130,000 COP up to $200,000 COP, that transport is better look and negotiate it in the village the previous day to get a good price. All conveyors are fulfilled, it is not recommended that you take your car because the road is not good. It is also necessary to buy the entrance and insurance. Best to enjoy the region to stay minimum 3 days, travel in Group and work out days before, be in good health and resting very well the day before the rise.
Spectacular, really tough. DON’T use Arco Iris Tour. Rude guy, does whatever he wants, lame tour, no more »
It was an amazing journey, the landscape is pretty breathtaking.
Amazing national park and open again. The local park headquarters in town (near the central market in El Cocuy) will tell you that you need a guide, insurance, and registration fee in order to do ANY hiking in the park. While you should definitely get a guide and insurance if you're going overnight or deep into the backcountry, you don't need any of that to hike at Valle de Lagunillas or from el Refugio La Esperanza. The security guards/rangers will welcome you and totally let you day hike without anything special. Absolutely stunning alpine environment about 8.5 hours from Bogotá.
The place is very nice but there is too many restrictions and native people problems, you cant go to the park to camp or bike, expensive services without added value
Laguna grande de la sierra. New rules are terrible, park virtually empty though.
Such a great place to visit. Landscape is wonderful and people are amazing! This is a must-visit place.
