Torre del Reloj, Cartagena
(4.2/5 based on 800+ reviews on the web)
See one of the best-known architectural symbols of the city and the main gateway to the old town at Torre del Reloj. The 30 m (98 ft) tower--part of the city walls guarding the inner section of old houses and churches from the sea--was originally built in the 17th century and restored in the 19th century. A statue of Pedro de Heredia, the city's founder, dominates a square full of restaurants, shops, and street vendors. In the past, slave traders would pass under the tower; today, herds of tourists cluster on the site. Browse the market with handicrafts and old books, or, if interested, catch a horse-drawn carriage ride from here. • The tower is really beautiful, has as a characteristic to be the main entrance to the city. The yellow calls a lot of attention and is a stately monument. Negative point: point below the sea and after rain takes a long time for the draining of water, forming huge puddles. Careful visit after rains only, because the rest is worth.

  • The Torre del Reloj is itself only a quaint clock tower at that time in the old city wall integrated was. When it comes to the evening, the square around the clock tower around but turns into a huge event space. Best, you can sit in the big race of the beard and just watch what is happening. After salsa, Breakdancers, Vallenati, pantomime occur more comedians, other musicians and many street groups. This is my opinion after even of one of the best ways to make something Colombian culture in his journey. My last recommendation is if you sit there and at home and good feel easy, to buy you a cigar at one of the street vendors. So, each perfect day in Cartagena will be a dignified conclusion. (Or just start of the TdR is THE spot to submit themselves for a long night!) The TdR lies on the edge of the old town, all hostels and discotheques in the just a stone's throw away, a taxi to the hotel complex Bocagrande costs 7,000 COP.

  • The view from the outside of the wall, with its peak the clock tower, is fantastic and an icon of the city and the country. Is the main reference point for access to the city centre and to the walled city.
