Torre del Reloj, Cartagena

(1,000+ reviews on the web)
Historic Site
See one of the best-known architectural symbols of the city and the main gateway to the old town at Torre del Reloj. The 30 m (98 ft) tower--part of the city walls guarding the inner section of old houses and churches from the sea--was originally built in the 17th century and restored in the 19th century. A statue of Pedro de Heredia, the city's founder, dominates a square full of restaurants, shops, and street vendors. In the past, slave traders would pass under the tower; today, herds of tourists cluster on the site. Browse the market with handicrafts and old books, or, if interested, catch a horse-drawn carriage ride from here. • The tower stands at the main entrance of the walled city, is a beautiful architecture and that deserves to be seen and searched your origin. But what enchants any tourist is what is behind that is a unique beauty, the walled city with its shops, theatres, churches and restaurants.

  • There's no way to talk about Cartagena without mentioning the clock tower. Is a symbol of the city which sets it apart. The site has been in the past, the main entrance to the walled city. The tower is a landmark that divides the walled city (old) of the younger. It is a very busy place in the city during the day and especially at night in the Tower lighting gives a special air to the scene.
