Parque del Centenario, Cartagena

3.9
#3 of 6 in Parks in Cartagena
Nature / Park
Head to Parque del Centenario for a walk through lush, pristine park space while commemorating those who lost their lives during the revolt for independence in Colombia. Visitors also flock here to observe a variety of animal species in the wild; iguanas, birds, and monkeys (among others) all inhabit the area. Having spent much of its life unfinished due to a lack of funds, the park has undergone a recent renovation that has brought vibrancy to the place. There's plenty of canopied, shady areas here too, so bring a book. Using our custom trip planner, Cartagena attractions like Parque del Centenario can form part of a personalized travel itinerary.

  • As you walk through, if you see other people looking up in the trees, stop and take a look! We saw a sloth, a giant iguana, red squirrels, and little monkeys in our walk through the park. It's a pleasant way to get between the walled city and the Gethsemani neighborhood.
  • Not that special. Quiet and local people hang in there.

  • Nice to walk around and see the iguanas and squirrels that inhabit it. It should be better illuminated at night.

Where to stay in Cartagena

Despite its status as a major tourist hub, Cartagena offers a good choice of affordable places to stay. If you're looking to splurge, consider staying at one of the town's restored colonial-era buildings, which now house boutique hotels packed with modern amenities. Alternatively, several old monasteries in Cartagena's walled colonial district offer outstanding facilities at very high prices. Budget-conscious travelers can explore the many mid-range hotels and low-cost hostels clustered in Getsemani, an up-and-coming neighborhood and center of the backpacker scene.
