Museo del Oro Zenu, Cartagena
(4/5 based on 1,500+ reviews on the web)
As far as gold museums in Colombia go, Museo del Oro Zenu would probably get the silver medal, but it still makes for an extremely worthwhile visit. Often labeled as a smaller version of Bogota's Museo del Oro, the museum places a strong emphasis on Colombia's indigenous Zenu culture and their use of gold in decorations and religious artifacts. The free museum also displays household items used by the Zenu people and explains how they utilized irrigation and flood-management systems to their advantage. Spend an hour wandering through the museum in air-conditioned bliss. With our world travel planner, Cartagena attractions like Museo del Oro Zenu can be center stage of your vacation plans, and you can find out about other attractions like it, unlike it, near it, and miles away.

  • This is a small museum but full of history. The texts or descriptions are in Spanish and English so if one does not have a guide one can still see and understand the history. The museum preserves what...  more »
  • It is a museum that even though it is not great if it is very well executed, parts and descriptions are very good, and it was free when we went. It has exposed from typical funerary trousseaux to pieces from ceramic etc., and with great care. . The only thing against it, which has nothing to do with the Museum is one of the guides that after visiting it on our own, said that you as our next visit, the naval museum was closed, wanted to take us to a shop of emeralds (this is normal). The problem was that the naval museum was not closed, the to to carry jewelry Commission, less evil than not what we believe tracking. . We can say that our stay in Colombia dealing with people has been excellent, you are at home.

  • Free, small, nice enough to get out of the sun and heat for a while. The pre-Columbian gold work will give you a good idea for an authentic modern jewelry souvenir

  • There are a number of amazing gold objects in this small museum and a bit of information about about the pre-Columbian peoples that made them. Entrance is free!
  • Small, but great and for free, just in the old town center! Some great pre colombian artifacts just in the front of you! Ac inside is perfect in the middle of the hot day
  • Small-mid sized museum next to a city plaza. It displays and tells the story of the Spaniard's attempts to seize indigenous gold and relics while giving a good glimpse into the craftsmanship of the gold items, how climate affected the region, etc. Worth a stop. And its free and air-conditioned too.
  • Fairly small, but free. So, the price is right.
  • Very cool artifacts on display that you can see quickly - it's free!
