At the heart of a colorful and historical city plaza proudly stands Monumento Pedro de Heredia. The statue commemorates Pedro de Heredia, a Spanish conquistador and explorer of Colombia. He is credited with founding the walled city of Cartagena, and many walking tours of the old town start here (appropriately). Local vendors surround the statue, selling everything from coffee to cheap, cold beer. Close proximity to other historical sites, including the former slave market, means you can combine your visit. From here initial and ending the tour of horse cars, it is very near the Mayor's office, and is the main access to the walled city.
