Casa Museo Rafael Nunez, Cartagena

(3.8/5 based on 100+ reviews on the web)
For insight into Colombian political history, head to Casa Museo Rafael Nunez--the charming mansion of the late poet, lawyer, and president. Nunez is credited with writing the words of Colombia's national anthem, and partly of the nation's constitution of 1886. One wing of his residence now serves as a museum, where you can survey some of his personal possessions and documents. For an extra glimpse into his life and times, head to the chapel opposite the house, which holds Nunez's ashes. Not all guides will have English as a spoken language; bring a phrase book along. Today the House is a museum to the life of the ex-President, has all his belongings from the furniture to objects personal. It is beside the city Amurallada.

  • The Museum is the House in which he lived (even ruled) Rafael Nuñez, 3 times President of Colombia, famous for writing the lyrics of the national anthem and the Constitution of 1886. The House Museum is to preserve nearly all original, including books and artifacts of Núñez. It is free and is in front of the walled city. It is worth giving a gratuity (volunteer) to make the visit guided and explanatory.
