Casa Museo Rafael Nunez, Cartagena

4.5
#5 of 12 in Museums in Cartagena
For insight into Colombian political history, head to Casa Museo Rafael Nunez--the charming mansion of the late poet, lawyer, and president. Nunez is credited with writing the words of Colombia's national anthem, and partly of the nation's constitution of 1886. One wing of his residence now serves as a museum, where you can survey some of his personal possessions and documents. For an extra glimpse into his life and times, head to the chapel opposite the house, which holds Nunez's ashes. Not all guides will have English as a spoken language; bring a phrase book along. • As we had bought the 2-story bus tickets. This is a stop of the tour. It is a 19th-century house where lived the dr. Rafael Núñez, 4 times President of Colombia from Cartagena. The restored house is situated and in which is located around the utensil used by the President and his spouse Soledad Román, and Polanco. Beds, wardrobe, crockery, clothes, cars etc. Apollo Park, built in honor of the former President is located in front of the House. There is also a shrine where the remains of Dr. Nuñez and his spouse are located. Interesanate to learn a little about Colombian history. Also author of the lyrics of the national anthem of Colombia

Where to stay in Cartagena

Despite its status as a major tourist hub, Cartagena offers a good choice of affordable places to stay. If you're looking to splurge, consider staying at one of the town's restored colonial-era buildings, which now house boutique hotels packed with modern amenities. Alternatively, several old monasteries in Cartagena's walled colonial district offer outstanding facilities at very high prices. Budget-conscious travelers can explore the many mid-range hotels and low-cost hostels clustered in Getsemani, an up-and-coming neighborhood and center of the backpacker scene.
