Iglesia San Francisco, Cali
Categories: Churches, Tourist Spots
The oldest colonial building in the city and one of the sturdiest, Iglesia San Francisco has weathered a number of heavy earthquakes since its construction in 1586. Look out for the intricate carving of the Virgen del Socorro on the main altar, brought to the city in 1540 by the founder of Santiago, Pedro de Valdivia, from his conquistador mission. History buffs should appreciate the attached museum dedicated to colonial-era art. It should be noted that no photography or video-making of the church is permitted. Plan your visit to Iglesia San Francisco and a wealth of other attractions, well-known and undiscovered, using our Cali trip generator.
