While one may think that the Plaza de Toros La Santamaria is a reminder of a past colonial of "practical savages", as some have called it, it has also proved, with the passage of the years, a versatile setting for events of all kinds to level locally and nationally, from the first Festival Rock Park, the Theatre Festival of Bogotá, Opera to the Park, to concerts and shows, as shows of boxing, the Davis Cup of tennis, Piero, Mercedes Sosa and Gustavo Cerati, amongst others. The square was recently restored and enjoys a large massive box, in addition to exclusive stands covered under roof and that are usually reserved for livestock and political elites in bullfighting season. No doubt the scenario can easily be adapted, because the time in which I was installed on the sand a tennis court in brick that is easy to install and uninstall. Maintenance is constant and that the restoration work dealt with decorate the place with a simple but effective, modern style that preserves the environment as in the time of its foundation to the first half of the 20th century. It is easily reachable by car, especially if it comes from the El Dorado Avenue coming from the airport, because it is right at the end of this avenue towards the eastern side of the city. Walk also features very easily, since it is bordered by the start of the pedestrianisation of the seventh race on 24th Street, and North leads to the financial centre of the city. The National Museum station is handy if you are coming by bus from the seventh or tenth, and its location is quite visible: San Alejo (MamBo) between the Torre Colpatria, Tequendama complex, the Planetarium and the flea market. Sometimes there are guided tours that allow entrance to the plaza, and guides focus to sense full both in the heritage theme the cultural, social, economic and political. You can order information in the district Institute of Cultural Heritage or the Museum of Bogotá. Bike tours usually visit this destination in his Bogota tour, so that is not difficult to have the opportunity to visit it if you come alone or in group.

The place now has only events. Shows, tennis tournament, etc. I found the place, but there's nothing in particular on visit.

Hopefully bullfighting is soon abolished and this arena is used for sports, and cultural events. As mentioned previously, it is a beautiful building built for a grotesque spectacle  more »

Where to stay in Bogota

Many visitors to Bogota stay in La Candelaria, a colonial-era neighborhood in the city center where you can find plenty of decent hostels and mingle with tourists from around the globe. Staying in this area also puts you within walking distance of the city's major museums and best nightlife options. If you prefer to sleep in a quieter area and visit this busy district during the day, consider accommodations in the northern section of the city, which includes the upscale neighborhood Zona T.
