  • You would not expect a museum on the 23rd floor of this unassuming high rise building down Town steps from the gold museum. It cost less then $2 to get in and give you a good idea about the origins of...  more »
  • It is right in the building across from the gold Museum. It is small but interesting, you tell as they are the areas of extraction of emeralds in Colombia, and then at the end there is a sales shop. It is a private museum

  • Since in Colombia located numerous deposits of the finest emeralds, logically was on a number of other museum Museo internacional de la Esmeralda. This is a private family Museum. Currently the Museum has the largest collection of the highest quality emeralds in the world. The entire Exposition is located unconventionally in 23. the first floor of a skyscraper in the heart of the city, right next to the Museum of gold. Admission is about $50 and a guided tour in English too. It is forbidden to take pictures, so here's the Green splendor of the good experience with my own eyes ... It's in the millions.

  • Great experience to see a replica mine and find out all you ever wanted to know about emeralds.
  • A great museum to learn about Colombia's emeralds (the highest quality in the world). Nice displays and they even show you how it looks in the mine. The tour (compulsory) lasts 30 mins, ending in a large gift shop. A little complicated to enter - it's on the 23rd floor. Show ID to reception to get a visitors pass for the lifts. I got free entry as I did Beyond Colombia's free walking tour.
  • A curious place to visit ... Small
  • Awesome place
  • The place is small but very nice and pleasant, a little strange to be able to take photos of the emeralds, but worth. The visit is guided and there is very good care

Where to stay in Bogota

Many visitors to Bogota stay in La Candelaria, a colonial-era neighborhood in the city center where you can find plenty of decent hostels and mingle with tourists from around the globe. Staying in this area also puts you within walking distance of the city's major museums and best nightlife options. If you prefer to sleep in a quieter area and visit this busy district during the day, consider accommodations in the northern section of the city, which includes the upscale neighborhood Zona T.
