Iglesia de San Francisco, Bogota

4.6
Take a tour of the oldest preserved church in the city when you visit Iglesia de San Francisco. Originally built in the latter half of the 16th century, the cathedral was dedicated to St. Francis of Assisi. Take time to admire the stunning architecture from the outside. Then move to the interior, where you'll find gold embellishments decorating the altar and its backdrop--a grand view from the pews. Statues of religious figures line the bottom of an elaborately designed ceiling within the worship room. Ask at the attraction for service times if you are interested. The Church is small, but very charming, all with gold interior and a pretty imposing altar. Be sure to enter.

1550 Church, wonderful, finished the construction of the altar-piece in 1623. All original, wooden ceiling, altar and altarpiece in gold, walls with valuable works. The pulpit is all worked up and the chorus is beautiful. The side door is original. When we arrived, the mass was ending, but the responsible for the Church let us stay in your interior, gave some explanations and let us photograph (you can't). Sit and stare at the ceiling is sensational. Next to the altar has a chapel all of gold. Admission is free.

It is a religious place that has an incredible, especially architecture part of the altar. It is very old and with a work that is worth looking at.

Built in 1550. This church was one the first in old Santa Fe. Nice architecture.

Doesn't look like much from the outside, but please step inside. The interior is very grand with plenty of statues. Built in 1550, this Dan Franciscan church still looks great and is worth a quick visit.

Where to stay in Bogota

Many visitors to Bogota stay in La Candelaria, a colonial-era neighborhood in the city center where you can find plenty of decent hostels and mingle with tourists from around the globe. Staying in this area also puts you within walking distance of the city's major museums and best nightlife options. If you prefer to sleep in a quieter area and visit this busy district during the day, consider accommodations in the northern section of the city, which includes the upscale neighborhood Zona T.
