Bolivar plaza, Bogota

(4/5 based on 2,000+ reviews on the web)
Start your tour of historical Bogota by visiting Bolivar plaza, one of the city's most iconic sights. A statue of Simon Bolivar forms the central point of the square. Erected in 1846, it represents Bogota's first public monument and commemorates the military leader who helped liberate multiple nations from Spanish rule. Historical buildings surround the plaza on all sides, including the national capitol, the house of the supreme court, the mayor's office, and the Cathedral of Bogota. Often very lively, the square makes an excellent location for people-watching, and right next to it you can find a selection of cafes and bars. Many of Bogota's top sights are just a short walk from here. Use our Bogota vacation builder to add Bolivar plaza and other attractions to your Bogota vacation plans.

  • If you go to Bogotá, you have to go to the plaza de Bolívar and appreciate their buildings full of history and Majesty. Its very own Bogota's streets take you to many important sites that surround is square. It is certainly a very preferred destination.

  • Interesting, but not as interesting as Quito's plaza de indepencia. It's also a tad drab. However, with a little historical learning you'll realize the sheer volume of important events that have happened where you stand or within view.
  • Truly spectacular sight. You haven't seen Bogotá unless you've made it here. Recommended to take a personal guide to see the area. This is something I can help you with.
  • Nice touristic square. Worth of visit if you are dorking around downtown
  • A historic place in Colombia. What a shame that is surrounded with beautiful buildings but full of many rotten politicians
  • Bolivar square is a historic place, a first public monument in the city of LA Candelaria. If you are in Bogota, Colombia, it's a must place to visit or your trip is kinda not complete. Tip: beware especially in crowd.
