Estadio Metropolitano Roberto Melendez, Barranquilla

3.8
#2 of 6 in Outdoors in Atlantico Department
Soccer fans and those interested in sporting architecture should check out Estadio Metropolitano Roberto Melendez, the multi-purpose stadium of Atletico Junior and Colombia's national soccer team. Built with a capacity of just under 50,000 in time for Colombia's bid to host the 1986 World Cup, the stadium has since accommodated national concerts and various soccer events. The day-to-day here now includes fully guided tours of the museum and the stadium itself. If your visit coincides with a match, tickets are generally available at the door so don't worry too much about booking ahead. Estadio Metropolitano Roberto Melendez is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our custom trip planner, Barranquilla Edition.

  • It's a great place to feel the Colombian football. It is the national team stadium and also the place where Junior de Barranquilla play locally. However, It is quite far from the city and the transportation is poor. If you go there, stay aware of the thieves and enjoy the football!!
  • Sport events entrance is an issue. I recommend to arrive very early to avoid delays and issues in the queue and police.
  • Norte alta. Good place to watch Colombia's matches.
  • Junior F.C and National Colombia football team home. Exciting matches
  • I enjoyed a game and a couple of beers. The food is so so.

Where to stay in Barranquilla

Equipped to host the largest festival in the country, Barranquilla has a good set of accommodations catering to a range of tastes, budgets, and interests. Either side of Carrera 46, find pristine chain hotels and smaller independent options with extensive amenities, such as rooftop swimming pools, modern spas, and popular restaurants. Look to the more residential areas for budget-friendly guesthouses, and consider booking a rental apartment if planning on a longer stay. Economical options cluster around Paseo Bolivar, but note the area can be rather sketchy. Be sure to reserve well in advance if planning on visiting for Mardi Gras in February.
