Soccer fans and those interested in sporting architecture should check out Estadio Metropolitano Roberto Melendez, the multi-purpose stadium of Atletico Junior and Colombia's national soccer team. Built with a capacity of just under 50,000 in time for Colombia's bid to host the 1986 World Cup, the stadium has since accommodated national concerts and various soccer events. The day-to-day here now includes fully guided tours of the museum and the stadium itself. If your visit coincides with a match, tickets are generally available at the door so don't worry too much about booking ahead. Where to stay in Barranquilla

Equipped to host the largest festival in the country, Barranquilla has a good set of accommodations catering to a range of tastes, budgets, and interests. Either side of Carrera 46, find pristine chain hotels and smaller independent options with extensive amenities, such as rooftop swimming pools, modern spas, and popular restaurants. Look to the more residential areas for budget-friendly guesthouses, and consider booking a rental apartment if planning on a longer stay. Economical options cluster around Paseo Bolivar, but note the area can be rather sketchy. Be sure to reserve well in advance if planning on visiting for Mardi Gras in February.

  • Hello all, I would like to refer to the experience of someone who frequently go to Metropolitan Stadium to see the selection, if advisable to carry my 5 years small grandstands North/South for the match against Brazil, since we traveled from another city. Many thanks

  • The great El Flaco Melendez was the most powerful player in the world, El Flaco was known to able to kick goals half field! That's almost the 50 yard line in american football. The founders, The Melendez Family have always had the most powerful legs in the Soccer/futbal world and anyone that has seen them would admire the power of them. This is how this stadium earned its name and also was one of the major founders of Junior soccer team, raising Barranquilla in a positive light to becoming one of the most noticeable cities (besides Bogota) in the world to Visit.
  • Massive venue. Surroundings are not quite safe so keep your eyes on your belongings at all times.
  • The best football pitch in America
  • While you seated is great, it has nasty WC and its surroundings are the worst experience ever. Watch out outside for your belongings!
  • Me encanto I loveeeeee
