Catedral Metropolitana Maria Reina, Barranquilla

(4.1/5 based on 140+ reviews on the web)
The simple and modern facade of Catedral Metropolitana Maria Reina, with it's harsh angular lines, conceals a world of color that streams throughout the interior of this 1955 Catholic cathedral. The church's construction took over 27 years to complete, designed in celebration of the Colombian-Caribbean religious heritage. What goes unnoticed from the exterior are the hundreds of stained-glass windows that illuminate the vast interior. Renowned Colombian sculptor Rodrigo Arenas Betancourt created the impressive sculpture of Christ that hangs from the ceiling, above the marble grand altar. • Church is not a tourist attraction, much less this, that neither is historical. Loss of tourist visitation time here.

  • This modern building is the most representative of Barranquilla Catholic Temple, consists of several elements which are considered very attractive by itself alone: the sculptural work of the maestro Rodrigo Arenas Betancourt, monument of 16 tons in homage to Christ liberator; large mosaics of San José and María Reina and gigantic stained-glass windows depicting the creation and the sacraments of the Catholic Church. To the front is located the plaza of the peace that blanket also Gallery and spacious areas green.

  • Shame as a place so beautiful and emblematic of the city becomes overshadowed by the amount of vicious who come to smoke marijuana in this sector 🚬. I'm not against them but many us uncomfortable that smell.
