Cementerio Barichara, Barichara

(4.4/5 based on 80 reviews on the web)
Take some time away from the city and head to Cementerio Barichara, known for its intricately carved gravestones adorned with grey iron crosses. A calm square and a small, charming church in picturesque environs flank the cemetery, and each carved headstone seems to tell an allegory specific to that person's life, adding an unusual and interesting element to the graves. Head inside the church to survey an ornate carving of the Last Supper. • It's worth spending a few minutes in this peaceful spot on the edge of town. Apart from the solemnity of the place, it is highly regarded for the work of local stonemasons in preparing the headstones....  more »
  • I liked knowing the cemetery is small and is runs fast. Has less than two hundreds of use. Already see details labradas in stones on the gravestones as hats or animal caps etc

  • It is a place that I think should visit because I'm not sure that there are other equally. What is different to any other cemetery are the works carved in stone that lay over the graves, and which are related to what the deceased made in life. You can be within travel offering in the motorcycle taxis in the Park, or walk a little from there.
