View a collection of ancient artifacts at Museo del Oro Quimbaya. The museum is dedicated to the Quimbayan civilization that lived in the area 10,000 years ago. The museum documents the changes in lifestyle from a traditional hunter-gatherer society to a culture built upon foundations of agriculture and metalworking, notably gold. While all these artifacts are labelled as Quimbayan, they originate from many different times and societies. The people were regarded as the best goldsmiths in the country, and because of this you’ll be able to view ancient golden sculptures. Visit the museum to get a clear picture of how these tribes functioned (thanks to knowledgeable staff and a well-equipped museum library). Please note that a large part of the collection is housed in a separate museum in Bogota. Where to stay in Armenia

You'll find a good selection of accommodations in Armenia, fairly evenly distributed throughout the city. However, the downtown area south of Avenida de los Camellos has the lion's share, with hotels mid-range to luxurious well positioned for access to popular bars and eateries, as well as the main highways leading out into the rich natural landscape of the region. Budget options exist in the form of hotels and hostels in formerly residential blocks, fitting in with the architecture on the residential and commerical side streets.

  • The Museum has a large collection of parts through which we can know part of the story of our indigenous culture. It also has two spaces for reading; one that houses great bibliographic archive of the region and another space for children and young people.
