Tianzi Mountain Clouds, Zhangjiajie

(4.7/5 based on 95+ reviews on the web)
One of the most idiosyncratic and otherworldy landscapes on the planet, the World Heritage Site of Tianzi Mountain Clouds affords memorable views of towering columns of rock, furnished by trees and shrouded in misty clouds. Covering 67 sq km (25.8 sq mi), the Mountain Nature Reserve's highest peak stands at 1,262 m (4,140 ft) above sea level. In 1982, the reserve became China's first national forest park, and 10 years later was recognized byUNESCO. Take a cable car to a complex of various viewing platforms, and admire the odd and angular (seemingly gravity-defying) geologicial structures. Bring your camera along, as you'll want to take those awe-inspiring views home with you. Make Tianzi Mountain Clouds part of your personalized Zhangjiajie itinerary using our Zhangjiajie tourist route planner.

  • If the fog or clouds are in then these incredible formations really do look like they are floating and it is a sight to see. Bring a few extra batteries for your camera, you will need them!
  • On my first visit I simply had not seen it: the fog was so thick there was no chance to climb. But on the second visit I was lucky.
