Yuan Yang terraces, Yuanyang County
(4.8/5 based on 110+ reviews on the web)
Hike through picturesque rice paddy fields surrounded by green hills and mist at Yuan Yang terraces. When the water fills up the terraces, they mirror the landscape, creating some amazing abstract formations. Witness sunsets and sunrises from five main viewing platforms, each giving a different perspective, then enjoy some refreshing tea and taste local cuisine while gazing at beautiful nature. Due to the area's renowned fogginess, which definitely adds to the charming ambiance, many visitors choose to stay for a couple of days in order to catch clear weather. Ask a local person to point out where you can buy some rice produced in the area. • Really worth the 6 h drive from kunming. Of course terrible under rainy day but still wonderfull. Pay attention to observe minorities specially yi and hani .
  • We no longer know where to watch but to do a walk in the rice paddies and watch people work

  • We finally stepped in front of your eyes what we came all the way down here, in the South-Western offshoot of the people's Republic of China. It's really hard to make sense of amazement almost reverential that invades us the view of what is, in effect, an immense and secular works by synergy between man and nature that survived for more than 1,000 years. Romantic ocean of mist and colors that appear to be exited from the palette of a painter who from dawn to dusk lived unforgettable moments carpendoli moment by moment with your brush. If there was my former colleague Julius, now retired, fond of watercolours I think would be lost in oblivion of shades of green, yellow, blue. Our eyes viewing the rice terraces of Yuanyang elicits moments of emotion, full of poetry, not easy to describe. The feeling is that of being in an artwork that stretches for hundreds of metres all around us, a little like that of Edward Burtynsky, admired last June within the site EXPerience in Rho, in a Pavilion set up by three years. Talk of sublime would not be correct, perhaps the opposite is true: it is the eternal vastness of nature for the unsurpassed romantic terrors that surprises us, but rather a feeling of harmony and comforting continuity, feel like human species, eventually part of the landscape and not his antagonists, the idea of being able to ride the time hand-in-hand with the cosmos.
