Yantai Hill, Yantai

#1 of 33 in Things to do in Yantai
Mountain Nature / Park
At the hilltop park of Yantai Hill you can enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding landscape and observe diverse and picturesque historic structures. Home to over 600 years of history, the hilltop proved a useful strategic location for the defense from Japanese invasion during the Hongwu period of the Ming Dynasty, and became a symbol of the city. Take in the fresh air coming in off the ocean and wander manicured trails leading you past a variety of well-maintained embassy buildings from around the world. Look out for English and Danish architecture from the early 20th century, and the head's lofty lighthouse, from the top of which you can take in the dramatic ocean views. The main urban area of Yantai offers a number of accommodations, particularly near to the harbor area. With some particularly luxurious options set in old neoclassical buildings, and side-street hostels welcoming backpackers, this central area offers a good level of variety. Look west of here to the mouth of the Jiahe River for a group of luxury hotels looking out over Taozi Bay, offering a wealth of additional facilities. Even further west along the coast, the old water city of Penglai offers a number of hotels and hostels close to its historic sites and other attractions.
