Ruin Tourist Spot
Built in the 14th century during the reign of the first Ming emperor, Xi'an City Wall (Chengqiang) has survived bombings, fires, and erosion and remained an important landmark. Surrounded by a deep moat, this section of the wall spans 13.7 km (8.5 mi). Constructed to optimize protection against invasion, the structure therefore includes a complicated system of gates and 98 ramparts. Today, visitors can walk, bike, or ride in a battery car across the gate. Where to stay in Xi'an

As in most Chinese cities, the least expensive places to stay in Xi'an concentrate around the main train station. To stay in a quieter and safer area, look for rooms in or near the city center, where you can choose between mid-range hotels and affordable youth hostels catering to backpackers and other travelers on a budget. Tourists with bargaining experience can usually get deeply discounted rooms through agents working the shuttle bus station at the airport. If you'd rather avoid dealing with touts, book your accommodations ahead.
