Immerse yourself in the Islamic culture located within the city center at Muslim Quarter. Inhabited by about 20,000 Muslims, the quarter covers several blocks and shelters some of the oldest and best-preserved mosques in China. Explore the dark-colored stone streets, which contain residence and business buildings modelled on the styles of Ming and Qing Dynasties. Get acquainted with the friendly descendants of first Muslim diplomatic and merchant immigrants who operate restaurants, shops, and workshops, and maintain their own traditions and customs. Also, try out local dishes sold by street vendors and check out market stalls offering authentic handicrafts and exquisite souvenirs. The Xi'an Muslim Quarter is a very famous for snacks and street food. It is located in the center part of Xi'an. It is close to both the Bell Tower and the Drum Tower. There are ten mosques in the area. The biggest one is the Great Mosque, which is listed as a protected heritage for its traditional buildings and religious significance. The Muslim food in Xi'an can be traced back to the Tang dynasty. The area slowly developed special characteristics of mainly using beef, mutton and complementing with pastry. Xi'an Muslim Quarter is famous for its traditional foods and cultural activities. The traditional food is as follow: - Beef/lamb stew of bread - Wooden cages mirror cake - Steamed soup dumplings - Meat skewers

A wonderful place to visit. Go there after sunset and enjoy the beautiful architecture covered in colorful lights. The street is full with hundreds of vendors selling local street food and artistic products. The food is genuinely tasty. Everything is so colorful and lively. A must visit spot on Xi'an.

We then continued to the Muslim quarter, starting at the market, one of my favourite parts because it offers a wide range of colourful street food, for all budgets and tastes. We got a bit “lost” and perplexed …of all the movement around here, so many people walking by, vendors offering their products, what a vibrant and full-of-life street. !. We also learned about the history of how the Muslims arrived here and Silk Road route and merchants, a walk past in time..We then arrived at the Great Mosque.
