#4 of 32 in Parks in Xi'an
The Daming Palace was the imperial palace complex of the Tang Dynasty, located in its capital Chang'an. It served as the royal residence of the Tang emperors for more than 220 years. Today, it is designated as a national heritage site of China. The area is located northeast of present-day Xi'an, Shaanxi Province.NameThe palace was originally known as Yong'an Palace, but was renamed to Daming Palace in 635. In 662, after renovations to the palace, it was renamed to Penglai Palace. In 670, it was named to Hanyuan Palace or Yuan Palace. Eventually, in 701, the name of the palace became Daming Palace again.

  • The maintenance of the guide equipments in the museum was not good, the monitors shows the wrong content and incorrect operation. It will be better if the administration of the museum take care of the issue more. The model of the ancient palace is elaborate, the sightseer can easily figure out the real scene in the ancient time.
  • Do not expect to see grand palaces like the Forbidden City. The site is huge, like many of the parks and scenic site in China so get the tram ride ticket with the entrance ticket. The ride around the palace ground will take about half an hour and what you will see is landscaped greenery where all the hundreds of building are supposed to be. There are a few structure and buildings that are built to give some representation. The IMAX show next to the ticketing area will provide a better understanding and visualisation of how grand the palace was during its time. There is an area in the park where they do a miniaturised of the whole palace complex which I thought is very interesting.
  • Very nice park with beautiful buildings
  • Big Park with ancient building...so amazing...
  • Nice night view 88

Where to stay in Xi'an

As in most Chinese cities, the least expensive places to stay in Xi'an concentrate around the main train station. To stay in a quieter and safer area, look for rooms in or near the city center, where you can choose between mid-range hotels and affordable youth hostels catering to backpackers and other travelers on a budget. Tourists with bargaining experience can usually get deeply discounted rooms through agents working the shuttle bus station at the airport. If you'd rather avoid dealing with touts, book your accommodations ahead.
