Big Wild Goose Pagoda (Dayanta), Xi'an

(4/5 based on 2,200+ reviews on the web)
Listed as a World Heritage Site, Big Wild Goose Pagoda (Dayanta) represents a well-preserved structure originally built in 652 that serves as an important holy site for Buddhists. Considered a symbol of the ancient city, the building currently stands 64 meters tall (210 ft), but it underwent many restorations throughout history due to numerous earthquakes which repeatedly damaged its foundation and façade. As you approach the pagoda, notice how the brick exterior looks like a square cone. Inside, observe the walls engraved with statues of Buddha as you climb the twisting staircase and take in the panoramic view from the arch-shaped doors on each of the seven storys. If you wish to take a seat on the viewing platform, you'll need to purchase a ticket. Put Big Wild Goose Pagoda (Dayanta) and other Xi'an attractions into our Xi'an itinerary builder, and watch your holiday take shape.

  • Long wait to go up the pagoda. A victim of its own famous location and name. However still a place to go in Xi'an.
  • Other than the pagoda and several buildings near the entrance, most are newly constructed. Few authentic items in display. While it is easy to access and very clean, I did not like it very much. I would love to see the historical ones.
  • Cool old pagoda with a lot of history. Great water show on the North side that is on display twice a night except in the winter. Cost extra to go into the pagoda on top of the regular park ticket.
  • Fantastically kitsch light show; arrive early and take drink! Soon to be on a metro line which will be a real boon.
  • The north square of the Pagoda will play beautiful music fountain at 8pm everyday. Really beautiful..
