Nanchan Temple of Wuxi, Wuxi

3.6
#1 of 10 in Historic Sites in Wuxi
Set in a bustling area around Nanchan Street in the ancient downtown quarter of Wuxi, Nanchan Temple of Wuxi serves as one of the most important Buddhist temple complexes south of the Yangtse River. Enter its impressive gate towering over a bustling pedestrian zone and you can climb a seven-story pagoda for a sweeping panorama. Actively visited by locals, this sixth-century temple provides many monk ceremonies and activities to watch. It also has antique stalls with Chinese memorabilia, such as stamps and coins. Take a boat ride on the canal or observe the slow, fashionable life on the water lane along the canal. A nearby market with some 500 shops makes a good spot to buy souvenirs and offers great opportunities for eating.
