Walk through Donghu National Park, an oasis of lush vegetation in a hectic city. Numerous winding pathways provide avenues for a leisurely stroll, from which you can take in views of the park's vibrant colors. The 8.2 hectare (20 acre) sanctuary surrounds East Lake, the largest urban lake in China. Rent a paddleboat and make your way across the lake's tranquil water, or climb to the top of the park's hill for expansive views of the area. Fan Li, considered one of the country's great statesmen, allegedly lived at the park with his lover following his retirement from state duties. Where to stay in Wuhan

In clusters along the river sit perhaps the most popular accommodations in Wuhan. The newer, chain hotels sit together in shiny commercial districts overlooking the water, while simple guesthouses sit in the older districts, on the more atmospheric streets of the city. Away from the river, on either bank, metro stations and parks become the centers of interest for most hoteliers and guesthouses owners, with a good mix of upmarket and budget options to be found. Some of the most luxurious options in the city lie to the east of the center, including resorts and upmarket branded hotels overlooking the lake.
