Tiger Hill, Suzhou
Categories: Nature & Parks
A small hillock with a rich history going back 2,500 years, Tiger Hill offers a well-maintained scenic place overlooking Suzhou. Rock gardens with man-made cascades and ponds amidst greenery draw locals and tourists alike, while the imperial architecture on the hill was a favorite retreat to five dynasties. Check out the famous leaning pagoda on the 36 m (118 ft) high hilltop, and visit the many pavilions spread across some 1.4 hectares (3.5 acres). You can take a walk across a picturesque stone bridge or get out on the water in a rented paddleboat. Hire a guide to tell you all the details about the tomb of King He Lu buried here in 496 BCE, or the well of the 8th-century tea sage, Lu Yu.
