Garden Historic Site
Listed as a World Heritage Site, The Humble Administrator's Garden represents one of the city's most famous and largest gardens. The garden was built during the Shaoxing period and endured constant change throughout history, usually under private governance. Covering an area of 51,590 sq m (555.310 sq ft), the maze-like site contains numerous Ming-style elaborate pavilions, courtyards, and bridges, which connect islands and pools. You can explore three sections of the garden, where you can behold many natural and cultural landmarks. Also, attend the frequently held floral exhibitions, where you can learn much about plant life and see examples of bonsai trees, lotuses, and other flowers. • This is the largest classical garden in Suzhou and probably the most popular one. So be prepared for a not so leisurely stroll packed with tourists. Nevertheless, it is one of the highlights of Suzhou...  more »
  • This garden is a humbling experience for any home gardener. The use of green shades, water and building texture is a masterpiece. Take the time to sit in one of the pegodas and look around you. Unfort...  more »

  • Fantastic garden. Too many visitors, and the environment is not well maintained. Feels a pity to have such a wonderful garden over used like this. Walking outside in Suzhou City, too many people trying to sell fake visiting combos. All tricycle drivers are liars who try to sell a 5CNY ride, but actually trying to take you to fake museums and fake stores. GO STRAIGHT TO THE GARDEN. DON'T TRUST ANY TRICYCLE DRIVER, OR ANY BUSINESS MAN TRYING TO TALK TO YOU.
  • One of the most beautiful parks I have seen. It's so well maintained. I can only imagine how it must look when the flowers are blooming.
  • Avoid (unless it's 9am on a rainy Monday morning in winter!). Undoubtedly beautiful, this garden was ruined for me by the shops and masses of noisy, selfie-taking tourists and was horrendously overpriced considering you can have the same experience in other places. The garden is quite big and has an amazing collection of bonsai, so it might be worth a visit if you're particularly interested in that. But (and this is a personal observation, I don't know much about Chinese gardens) it felt less 'classical' than other gardens I've visited, and I would not recommend it.
  • Amazing, beautiful garden with variety of landscapes! I went there just after the Lion Forest Garden, and it was much larger, and the landscape changed in each section of the garden, from yellow leaves to tiny ponds. Old, small trees arranged in pots were delicate, and intricate. I would definitely recommend come here again!
  • Beautiful garden but don't visit on a weekend or holiday. You'll spend more time fighting for space in wall to wall people than enjoying anything. If you go on a quiet day it's really beautiful.
