The Humble Administrator's Garden, Suzhou

(4.3/5 based on 1,700+ reviews on the web)
Listed as a World Heritage Site, The Humble Administrator's Garden represents one of the city's most famous and largest gardens. The garden was built during the Shaoxing period and endured constant change throughout history, usually under private governance. Covering an area of 51,590 sq m (555.310 sq ft), the maze-like site contains numerous Ming-style elaborate pavilions, courtyards, and bridges, which connect islands and pools. You can explore three sections of the garden, where you can behold many natural and cultural landmarks. Also, attend the frequently held floral exhibitions, where you can learn much about plant life and see examples of bonsai trees, lotuses, and other flowers. • Visited on a damp Monday morning and there were no queues. The rain stopped and although there was very little colour in March, it was still a very interesting garden to visit. If you are aged 60 or o...  more »
more »
  • In the famous Jiangnan gardens, watched garden too, but anyway larger than garden. If you feel okay so if it sees one turns to the Compact is the garden. The garden has condensed the essence of the humble Administrator's garden. If you have time take on the humble Administrator's garden. Would that feel?

  • Very beautiful. Favorite place was the Floating Green Tower. Very poetic names for every pavilion and equally artistic layout. Truly a UNESCO World Heritage Site. A must stop when visiting Shanghai and Suzhou.
  • Couple of years back when I visited Shanghai, one of my friends from China took me to Suzhou by train from Shanghai. We visited in Suzhou The Humble Administrator's Garden. This Garden is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most famous of the gardens of Suzhou. It was really worth visiting Gardens.
  • It's a huge beautiful garden, not terribly humble. Though when we went it was very crowded. Might be because it was during spring festival.
  • Nice place to Visit, Good Rock art works. Good place for artistic people
  • The most amazing gardens I have seen in China and even though it was more expensive to visit on the weekend 90RMB (Sunday) I was very glad I went and walked around and had a history lesson as well. Great to see that the government is looking after these beautiful gardens for everyone to enjoy.
