Suzhou Museum, Suzhou

4.4
#1 of 8 in Museums in Suzhou
Where Prince Zhong's mansion once stood, now stands Suzhou Museum, an exhibition building designed by a famous Chinese-American architect. Surrounded by exquisite courtyards, the three-story building represents a blend of modern halls and traditional gardens. You can visit three main areas of the museum--the central, western, and eastern areas. As you stroll through the museum, inspect the vast collection of Chinese national treasures ranging from handicraft works, paintings, and calligraphy, to porcelain, celadon, and silk relics. The museum also introduces its visitors to Chinese traditions, customs, festivals, belief systems, and folk activities. • The museum consists of two fairly distinct parts: a newer modern wing designed by IM Pei and an older wing. The newer wing has a nice central courtyard and houses many historical items. The older wing...  more »
  • How can a Chinese classic culture as iconic city settle for an exhibition space also limited? It shows a little frustrated, as there would be to tell which is that quickly addressed. I imagine that the funds of the Museum would expose much more still in the history of the city since the prehistoric times. The archaeological Fund and the building of the museum itself (including the indoor pool, modern version of the classical gardens) are really worth a visit.

  • The Museum's priceless pieces, stories of great value, with enough rooms to visit, very moved, with rapid movement, ideal for historians and curious.

  • Very good place to visit. No need to buy a ticket, it's free, and providing electronic-guider-device in a very cheap price( Ask the front service bar in the main hall for more information).
  • The architecture is amazing, and as one would expect as it is designed by Suzhou native and the same architect of the Louvre pyramids and Bank of China building in Hong Kong. Been here twice in two years, doesn't seem like the exhibits change too much. But entrance is free (some times long lines) so 5 stars!
  • Best museum in Suzhou, beautiful architecture and great collection.
  • I consider Suzhou Museum one of the most beautiful museums I have seen. It is a master piece created by the master architect I.M. Pei. It is designed in total harmony with the very sensitive surroundings (UNESCO world heritage The Humble Administrator's Garden) and the old town. The museum in itself is among the best in China with beautiful artefacts and changing exhibitions from all over the world.
  • The first time I was here was business related. The second time I was here as a tourist was in August, 2015. "Tired of it?" No, both the architecture and the exhibits are evergreen!
