Panmen Gate, Suzhou

Historic Walking Area · Hidden Gem · Tourist Spot
Part of the 6th-century BCE city wall that once surrounded Suzhou, Panmen Gate now stands as the only well-preserved water-and-land city gate in the world. It leads to a place soaked in history with ancient landmarks, including a pagoda and bridge. Inside the gate tower itself, history beckons among the ancient weapons on display on the first floor, while an extensive view of the whole city awaits you at the top. Once you pass through the gate, absorb the beauty of the carefully designed scenic area as you cross the small bridges over streams full of koi, admire the elegant pavilions, or take a boat tour.
