3.2/5 based on 85+ reviews on the web
East meets West at Shekou, an area of the bay featuring accommodations, shops, and restaurants catering largely to a foreign population. Since the 1980s, when major foreign oil companies secured the rights to drill in the South China Sea, the area began to serve as a base for platform workers brought over to work here. Since then, expatriates have largely settled the area. The main draw here centers around a landlocked 168 m (551 ft) long vessel that has been converted into a hotel with Chinese and Western restaurants, as well as an English bar, dance club, swimming pool, children's recreation center, and folk culture exhibition center. Around the vessel, explore a refurbished and modern commercial center, adorned with palms and fountains, and encompassing a variety of establishments.
