4.5/5 based on 120+ reviews on the web
Xidi Ancient Village earned a place on the World Heritage List not only thanks to its historic buildings, but also due to its ingenious examples of ancient engineering. Dating back to the 10th century, the village boasts over 100 well-preserved houses. The most notable structure from the Ming and Qing eras is an ancient sewage system that brought running water to all households. Another wonder of ancient engineering is the protective "fire wall," which is the main reason these old wooden houses still stand today. Walk past ancient halls and houses and under memorial archways, and learn about the Huizhou traditional culture. Put Xidi Ancient Village into our She County trip itinerary planner and find out what's close by, where to stay, and where to head next.
