Sumtsaling Monastery, Shangri-La County
(4/5 based on 400+ reviews on the web)
In the midst of a traditional Tibetan town, with prayer flags fluttering and rocks inscribed with sutras, Sumtsaling Monastery represents the biggest Buddhist monastery in its province. At the foot of Fopingshan Mountain, 3,380 m (11,090 ft) above sea level, the complex resembles an ancient castle, with a gilded roof and 108 columns characteristic of Han architecture. In the main hall, you can see frescos depicting various Buddhist legends and tales. Frescos and sculptures also adorn the cloisters of the inner halls. It couldn't be easier to arrange your visit to Sumtsaling Monastery and many more Shangri-La County attractions: make an itinerary online using Inspirock's Shangri-La County vacation planner.

  • The Temple of Tibetan Buddhism. Located at a short distance from the city. To buy tickets, ran Jing city bus dedicated to arrive. Anyway far from spectacular, long staircase up and reach the main shrine, on the surprising and less only the voice of the bird sounds. Feel the spirit of Tibet. For the No. 3 bus to the castle's appeal in Chinese, like stop, but did not know the Chinese got off by others.
