Dukezong Ancient Town, Shangri-La County

Categories: Historic Sites, Tourist Spots
Inspirock Rating:
2.8/5 based on 110+ reviews on the web
In January 2014, a fire destroyed most of Dukezong Ancient Town, a Tibetan town over 1,300 years old. Even though most of the old buildings and precious relics and artifacts are gone, you can still see a peaceful "old" town of two-story wooden buildings: houses, cafes, restaurants, and souvenir shops with cobbled lanes between them. Don't miss the chance to try delicious Tibetan food, including specialties like yak cheese and hot pot. The rebuilt town has an authentic look, but a lot of the old spirit has, naturally, disappeared. To add something authentic to your visit, go to the top of the nearby hill and admire a giant golden prayer wheel--the largest in the world and well worth seeing. Put Dukezong Ancient Town into our Shangri-La County vacation planner and find out what's close by, where to stay, and where to head next.
