Yuyuan Old Street, Shanghai

3.6
#6 of 210 in Shopping in Shanghai
Flea Market Landmark
Also called Mioqian Dajie throughout history, Yuyuan Old Street represents an attractive combination of entertainment and culture with an enviable commercial background. Many banks, jewelery shops, and teahouses are situated in this bustling street, which dates back to the Ming (1368-1644) and Qing (1644-1911) dynasties. Many residences were preserved and restored, while some parts contain traces of European influence. Visit a variety of stores which purvey all sorts of handicrafts, paintings, jewelery, herbs, and clothing, as well as local delicacies. Should you tire from exploring the site, relax at the famous classical garden, or head to a Taoist, Buddhist, or Muslim temple for some peace and quiet. • This is right by Yu Garden and the shopping is fantastic and people very friendly. It is no different than shopping at home, except you with Chinese people.  more »
  • A very beautiful place that deserves to be explored beyond simple repairs that have been made in this area. Move away a little and take advantage of the real old Shanghai. Lose yourself in these streets with old houses and real life. Everything is so mixed.

  • The very strange and interesting places with a lot of people. Yuyuan garden is curious and have a visit if you're going to be a few days in Shanghai. Prepared for tourism, but tourism area Chinese, since they are the most numerous and most consumed in their premises. For a few days in the city, it is worth.

  • Old stylized street with souvenir shops and bars. A great and intense experience of how the Chinese trade and peddle thei wares. A must-see if you're around visiting the Yuyuan Garden.
  • 人潮超多,建築保存相當完整,值得逛蠻久的 Full of people during day time. The building is well maintained. It's worthy to stay there for 2 hours at least.
  • A complex of shops which sell various kinds of merchandise and food. The buildings' design are traditional, thus you'll feel like going back in time.
  • Really crowded. Various souvenir shops and restaurants (poor quality).
  • A busy, touristy marketplace in among beautiful buildings. Too crowded to be enjoyable.

Where to stay in Shanghai

As one of China's top commercial cities and tourist destinations, Shanghai offers accommodations that range from backpacker-friendly haunts to five-star hotels in futuristic skyscrapers. Few world cities can rival Shanghai in terms of room variety, services, and prices, and all types of travelers can easily find suitable options based on their preference and budget limitations. Puxi and Pudong remain probably the best options for most foreign visitors, as these areas offer both modern hotels packed with amenities and older establishments loaded with traditional charm.
