Tian Zi Fang, Shanghai

4.1
#2 of 212 in Shopping in Shanghai
Part of the French Concession area, Tian Zi Fang has transformed from a traditional residential area into a modern arts and crafts enclave. Supported and swarmed by young designers, trend setters, and expatriates, the labyrinthine district houses numerous boutique shops, workshops, studios, bars, and restaurants. The area blends Shikumen buildings with British- and Spanish-styled castles, traditional Chinese meals with international flavors, and the eastern culture with a western charm. A lot of boutiques and galleries offer a variety of handmade novelty souvenirs for sale, arrive early to purchase them, as such limited editions sell out quickly. This is a cool little area to shop for knick-knacks, calling this place an area for arts and crafts is a bit of a stretch. There are plenty of shops, bars and restaurants, well worth a visit and as it...  more »

You can easily spend a couple of hours wondering around, get a bite to eat and do some shopping - whilst still feeling you're in China, based on the surroundings. We recommend.  more »

Charming hipster neighborhood in the French concession. Whilst very commercialised with similar gift shops, the architecture never fails to impress. There are many western dining options and bars to soak in the atmosphere.

Really cool place. lots of boutique shops and restaurants/ cafes. Also has some bars and dessert stalls. Has a really old time Shanghai feel. It has been revamped, but not too much as to preserve the historic feel.

Infinitely better than XinTianDi. Go here for a bit more authentic Shanghai alley experience, and even with its own broad selection of international eateries and shopping. Loved getting lost in the maze of alleyways.

A must. Spent there almost 3 hours, just walked around those small streets filled with designer shops, cafes and bars. Great atmosphere.

Great place. Lots to look around. Narrow lanes. Lots of little street cafes/restaurants.

Few world cities can rival Shanghai in terms of room variety, services, and prices, and all types of travelers can easily find suitable options based on their preference and budget limitations.
