Tian Zi Fang, Shanghai

4.1
#3 of 208 in Shopping in Shanghai
Part of the French Concession area, Tian Zi Fang has transformed from a traditional residential area into a modern arts and crafts enclave. Supported and swarmed by young designers, trend setters, and expatriates, the labyrinthine district houses numerous boutique shops, workshops, studios, bars, and restaurants. The area blends Shikumen buildings with British- and Spanish-styled castles, traditional Chinese meals with international flavors, and the eastern culture with a western charm. A lot of boutiques and galleries offer a variety of handmade novelty souvenirs for sale, arrive early to purchase them, as such limited editions sell out quickly. Where to stay in Shanghai

As one of China's top commercial cities and tourist destinations, Shanghai offers accommodations that range from backpacker-friendly haunts to five-star hotels in futuristic skyscrapers. Few world cities can rival Shanghai in terms of room variety, services, and prices, and all types of travelers can easily find suitable options based on their preference and budget limitations. Puxi and Pudong remain probably the best options for most foreign visitors, as these areas offer both modern hotels packed with amenities and older establishments loaded with traditional charm.
