Shanghai History Museum, Shanghai
(4.1/5 based on 600+ reviews on the web)
See a vast collection of art, documents, and other memorabilia of the city’s long history at Shanghai History Museum. Because the museum does not have a permanent residence, most of its miscellaneous treasury remains in storage, while only a small portion sees the light of day at locations such as the Oriental Pearl Tower or the Shanghai Library. From a total of 30,000 items in the museum's possession, more than half of them pertain to the city's modern history. Inspect many notable items including the wax figures, Gu Embroidery of insects, fish, and flowers made by Han Ximeng of the Ming-Dynasty. The museum also showcases a bronze cannon which belonged to the Qing Dynasty general during the First Opium War and an ancient Taiping Heavenly Kingdom coin. Shanghai History Museum is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our custom trip planner, Shanghai Edition.

  • A fine museum, everything looks so real! Good and it is really the history of Shanghai. The Museum is located in the pearl TV tower and the entrance fee was 35 Yen/person. Buying the ticket at the same place to buy tickets to the Tower! About 1h30min took it for me to go through everything, it was bigger than I thought and was worth the money. Wax dolls looked real! Can recommend to take a look, there are lots of shops there, too.

  • If you're going to the Pearl Tower you should swing through the museum. It's really interesting, and the 3D scenes and models are fun to look at.
  • Though this museum has an admission charge, I found this museum to be well worth the cost.
