Shanghai History Museum, Shanghai

4.1
#4 of 74 in Museums in Shanghai
See a vast collection of art, documents, and other memorabilia of the city’s long history at Shanghai History Museum. Because the museum does not have a permanent residence, most of its miscellaneous treasury remains in storage, while only a small portion sees the light of day at locations such as the Oriental Pearl Tower or the Shanghai Library. From a total of 30,000 items in the museum's possession, more than half of them pertain to the city's modern history. Inspect many notable items including the wax figures, Gu Embroidery of insects, fish, and flowers made by Han Ximeng of the Ming-Dynasty. The museum also showcases a bronze cannon which belonged to the Qing Dynasty general during the First Opium War and an ancient Taiping Heavenly Kingdom coin. • Such a disappointment. A long, boring tour of reconstructions of the story, thanks to beautiful human figures in wax. Sketching "historians" by workers, but essentially didactic and child-friendly, which in fact have a lot of fun. If you want the real story, not rebuilt and fictionalized, photographs, maps and more, this is not the appropriate place. Discouraged.

Few world cities can rival Shanghai in terms of room variety, services, and prices, and all types of travelers can easily find suitable options based on their preference and budget limitations.
