Huangpu River, Shanghai
(4.3/5 based on 1,300+ reviews on the web)
One of the Yangtze's most significant tributaries, Huangpu River remains a key player in Shanghai's shipping industry, as well as a major point of interests for visiting tourists. The river splits the urban sprawl into the eastern (pudong) and western (puxi) sections as it winds its way for 113 km (70 mi) through the city before emptying into the sea. River cruises make extremely popular methods for sightseeing around town--hop aboard a tourist-oriented excursion for a look at famous city landmarks from the water. Note the differences in architecture between the west bank's European designs and the east's towering skyscrapers. Marvel at the bridges that span the waterway, or make your way to the mouth of the river to admire the blending of distinct waters as they enter the ocean. Using our international travel planner, Shanghai attractions like Huangpu River can form part of a personalized travel itinerary.

  • Just did the Huangpo River cruise--go when it is clear or when the sun has set. Incredible views of the Bund and Pudong skyscrapers. Don't be surprised when they ask for an additional 50 RMB for a sea...  more »
  • To the West you can see the Bund, East Pudong. Other cities on the basis of the river seemed to look and feel. The river is not clean.

  • Easy to walk along looking at buildings on both sides of Huangpu River. Watching the boats. Probably busy during peak season.
